Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 2, 2026

This page says what information Graph Modeler™ and its website collect, and who sees it. The short version: the app collects nothing about you or your use, and connects to the internet only to check a license key you entered, or when you press its update button. The website does not use cookies or analytics, and the only personal information that reaches me is what you send me or what is needed to sell you a license.

Graph Modeler is published by Jeffrey J. Long ("I", "me").

The app

The Graph Modeler app does not collect information about you or your use. It sends no usage statistics, crash reports or other telemetry. Your projects, the data files you query and the files you publish stay on your computer, and nothing from them is ever sent anywhere.

The app starts other programs only on your computer, such as Graphviz to draw a picture. It makes a network connection of its own in only two cases:

  • A license key you entered. If you enter a commercial license key, the app sends that key to Polar, the seller, to check that it is valid, and nothing else: the request carries the key and the identifier of my Polar organization, with no computer name, no project and no data. It does this when you enter the key, again about every 30 days when the app starts, and when you press Check now on the About tab. Polar's answer includes the name, email address and billing address on the order. The app keeps only what it shows, which is the name (or your email address with most of it hidden), the key with most of it hidden, whether it is valid, and the date of the last check. They are kept, with the key itself, in a plain file named license.json in the app's data folder on your computer, which you can read, and delete. Polar sees your IP address, as any server does, and its privacy policy applies to what it holds. If Polar cannot be reached, the app carries on and keeps its last result. If you chose free personal use, or entered no key, this connection is never made.
  • The update button. Only when you press Check for updates on the About tab, the app asks GitHub for the list of releases of Graph Modeler, to see whether a newer version exists. It never does this by itself, and sends nothing about you or your computer beyond what every web request carries, such as your IP address.

Apart from these, the app makes no connection of its own. When you press a help or home link, it opens the page in your web browser, and your browser then connects to this website like any other link.

The Copy button on the About tab puts your support information (the version, your operating system and a few facts about your computer, and nothing about your data) on your clipboard. It goes nowhere unless you paste it into a message and send it to me.

This website

This website is a set of ordinary pages. It does not use cookies, advertising or analytics, and it does not follow you from page to page. Your browser may remember on your own device whether you chose the light or the dark theme, and I do not receive it.

The site and the downloads are hosted by GitHub. As with any web server, GitHub receives your IP address and the details of your request when you load a page or download an installer, and it keeps its own logs, which I do not control. See GitHub's privacy statement.

When you write to me

If you write to support@graphmodeler.com or sales@graphmodeler.com, I receive your email address, your name if you give it, and what you send. I use it to answer you, and I keep the messages for as long as they are useful for support or for the record of a purchase. I do not add you to a mailing list, and I do not sell or share your details. Email is handled by Microsoft 365.

Please do not send private or confidential data files. If a project file would help me find a problem, take out anything you do not want to share first.

When you buy a license

Payment is handled by Polar (Polar Software, Inc.), which is the merchant of record. Polar collects what a purchase needs, such as your name, email address, billing address and payment details. It takes the payment and sends you your license key and your receipt, and its own privacy policy applies to what it collects. Polar uses Stripe to process card payments. I do not see or keep your card number.

I can see the order in Polar's dashboard: your name, your email address, the billing address you gave, what you bought, and when. I use it to answer questions about your purchase and to keep the records that the law and taxes require. I do not copy it into other systems, I do not use it for marketing, and I do not send announcements. That is why the app has a button for checking for updates.

Who else sees it

I do not sell your information or use it for advertising. It is shared only with the services described above, which do the work of hosting, mail and payment, and where the law requires it.

How long I keep it

Email I receive is kept for as long as it is useful for support or for the record of a purchase. Order records stay in Polar, where I can see them, for as long as they are needed for support, and for the years that tax and accounting rules require records of a sale to be kept. I do not keep separate copies. After that they are deleted.

Your choices

You may ask me what I hold about you, ask me to correct or delete it, or ask me to stop using it, by writing to support@graphmodeler.com. I will answer within a reasonable time. Some order records have to be kept, and I will say so if that stops me from deleting something. Polar has its own way of handling requests about what it holds.

Children

Graph Modeler is a general-purpose tool, like a spreadsheet, and anyone may use it. It does not ask your age, and I do not knowingly collect information about children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the new version applies from then on.
